چکیده

The presented article contains a 3D mesh generation routine optimized with the Metropolis algorithm. The procedure enables to produce meshes of a prescribed volume V0 of elements. The finite volume meshes are used with the Finite Element approach. The FEM analysis enables to deal with a set of coupled nonlinear differential equations that describes the electrodiffusional problem. Mesh quality and accuracy of FEM solutions are also examined. High quality of FEM type space–dependent approximation and correctness of discrete approximation in time are ensured by finding solutions to the 3D Laplace problem and to the 3D diffusion equation, respectively. Their comparison with analytical solutions confirms accuracy of obtained approximations.

The FEM approach to the 2D Poisson equation in 'meshes' optimized with the Metropolis algorithm

The presented article contains a 2D mesh generation routine optimized with the Metropolis algorithm. The procedure enables to produce meshes with a prescribed size h of elements. These finite element meshes can serve as standard discrete patterns for the Finite Element Method (FEM). Appropriate meshes together with the FEM approach constitute an effective tool to deal with differential problems...

OPTIMAL DECOMPOSITION OF FINITE ELEMENT MESHES VIA K-MEDIAN METHODOLOGY AND DIFFERENT METAHEURISTICS

In this paper the performance of four well-known metaheuristics consisting of Artificial Bee Colony (ABC), Biogeographic Based Optimization (BBO), Harmony Search (HS) and Teaching Learning Based Optimization (TLBO) are investigated on optimal domain decomposition for parallel computing. A clique graph is used for transforming the connectivity of a finite element model (FEM) into that of the cor...

Optimization of 3D Impedance Tomography reconstruction on multi–core computing platforms

This manuscript presents results relative to the optimization of 3D impedance tomography reconstruction algorithms for execution on multi–core computing platforms. Speed–ups obtainable by the use of modern computing architectures and by an optimized implementation allow the use of much finer FEM meshes in the forward model, leading ultimately to a better image quality. We formulate the reconstr...

A comparative study on finite elements for capturing strong discontinuities: E-FEM vs X-FEM

A comparative study on finite elements for capturing strong discontinuities by means of elemental (E-FEM) or nodal enrichments (XFEM) is presented. Based on the same constitutive model (continuum damage) and linear elements (triangles and tetrahedra) optimized implementations of both types of enrichments in the same non-linear code are tested for a representative set of 2D and 3D crack propagat...

A high order 3D FEM-Level Set approach for multiphase flows with application to monodisperse droplet generation

Numerical simulation of incompressible multiphase flows with immiscible fluids is still a challenging field, particularly for 3D configurations undergoing complex topological changes. In this paper, we discuss a 3D FEM approach with high order Stokes elements (Q2/Q1) for velocity and pressure on hexahedral meshes. A discontinuous Galerkin approach with piecewise linear polynomials (dG(1)) is us...
